Ballarat and surrounds on alert as flood waters set in

Ballarat’s flood risk has intensified as the deluge continues with 63 millimetres of rain falling in the 24 hours between 6am Thursday and 6am Friday morning.

Beaufort, Creswick and Clunes are on watch and act alerts.

For Clunes, properties in the following areas are may be impacted by flooding:
Blackmores Rd
Clunes Caravan Park
Fraser Street
Purcell street
Ligar Street
Cameron Street
West Parade

A Major Flood Warning is being issued for Mt Emu Creek to Skipton. Residents have been advised to act now and move to higher ground.

Carisbrook residents have been evacuated, while Lexton and Miners Rest are under siege as creeks rage.

A flood relief centre was set up at Creswick’s Doug Lindsay Reserve late on Thursday afternoon.

Alerts continue to flood the Vic Emergency website for Ballarat and surrounds for flood assistance.

The Vic Traffic website is showing Remembrance Drive in Cardigan is closed in both directions at Madden Road.

On Thursday afternoon the top end of one of Ballarat’s major thoroughfares – Gillies Street – was forced to close, cutting off school bus lines between Ballarat and Creswick.

All Victorians are advised against non-essential travel.

Rain is easing in the area. Just 1 millimetre of rain expected for each day across the weekend.

Although those in already sodden areas are being advised there is the potential for more rain on the way towards the middle of next week.

Meteorologists are asking people to be aware and to stay up to date as more bad wather returns from Thursday.
