Netball court vandalism 2 1

The Eurobodalla netball fraternity has been left shocked at damage done to the newly laid netball courts in Broulee.

Cleaning the vandalised courts at Captain Oldrey Park has commenced, although the cost to fix the damage remains unclear at this stage.

Last weekend, vandals drove a vehicle onto the $470,000 courts, disfiguring the acrylic court surfaces.

President of the Eurobodalla Netball Association,Leanne Delves said it’s disappointing.

“People have been doing burnouts and donuts and smashing glass and it is a hazard,” Ms Delves said.

“Council have given us new courts last year and Captain Oldrey Park is used by so many different community groups,” she said.

“It’s disappointing to see someone could do that to our beautiful park which is a hazard to the kids that play and train there.”

Eurobodalla Council’s manager of recreation Nathan Farnell said Council staff were working to repair the damage.

“It may be that we need to bring a professional contractor in, so we are not yet sure of the cost or timing but it is a high priority for us,” Mr Farnell said.

“In the meantime, we will use timber logs and mesh fencing to close potential vehicle access points until permanent fencing or bollards are installed.”

The netball courts are part of a regional netball facility being developed at Captain Oldrey Park, along with the renovated multipurpose amenity building, car parking, inclusive playground and nature trail.
