Ballarat council finally gets its Materials Recovery Facility, with one catch

After years of lobbying by council, funding has finally been made available for Ballarat’s Materials Recovery Facility.

The Liberals Wendouree candidate Samantha McIntosh says $16 million is on the table if they win the upcoming election.

“Our plan means more jobs, less waste going to landfill, better recycling and new clean energy for Victoria,” Ms McIntosh said.
 
The Materials Recovery Facility will receive and sort a range of commingled recyclables such as paper, cardboard, metals, glass and plastics from right across the region.

Currently, more than 50,000 tonnes of waste is deposited at Ballarat’s Landfill, costing both locals and council around $5.8 million per year.
