A tender has been released for management works at one of Ballarat’s old rubbish tips.

The City of Ballarat needs an operator for the Chisholm Street site in Black Hill that was a tip between 1967 and 1982.

The EPA now requires the installation of a landfill gas trench to intercept and passively vent any potential landfill gas.

The tender also includes improvements to stormwater engineering controls to direct stormwater, ensuring it drains away from the landfill surface.

The gas venting will take place near the rear of a number of homes with council saying its liaising with impacted residents.

The works are expected to commence in November and will be completed by June 2025.

The site will be closed to the community and fenced for public safety during the construction and establishment of vegetation.

Once vegetation is completely established, the site will be re-opened to the public.
