A second round of major road works is about to begin as the state continues its recovery from last year’s devastating floods.
Worth $41 million, part of the Andrews Labor Government’s $165 million emergency repair blitz, it will see crews complete 460 individual projects.
The blitz will see large scale asphalting and in some cases complete rebuilds.
Speaking to Radio Ballarat, the Minister for Roads Melissa Horne says major freight and travel routes will be targeted.
“These are projects that include the Western Highway, Cobden-Terang Road, Elmore-Raywood Road, as well as the Glenelg highway, Sunraysia Highway, and Lavers Hill-Cobden Road.”
Other roads will undergo repairs include Bendigo-Pyramid Road, Mortlake-Ararat Road and Dimboola-Rainbow Road.
Minister Horne highlights that there aren’t many communities they weren’t affected, necessitating the major announcement.
“The impact the floods have had on our communities has been absolutely disastrous. We’ve had 63 out of the 79 Local Government Areas affected by flooding.
As a Government we have committed a more than $1.7 billion repair program to getting communities back up and running” she said.
Starting in the state’s badly hit north, some repair works are already underway, while others will begin as extended periods of warmer, drier weather provides better opportunities for the works.
