Member for Ballarat, Catherine King, has announced over $5 million of Federal Government funding will go towards fixing four notorious road crash sites in and around the city.
The projects, announced earlier this morning, will be funded under the Government’s 2024-25 Black Spot Program.
$2 million from the program, alongside a City of Ballarat co-contribution of $976,000, will go towards constructing a roundabout, splitter islands and raised safety platforms at the Greenhalghs Road and Finchs Road intersection in Haddon.
A speed zone reduction will also be undertaken in the surrounding area.
$1,912,000 will be spent on improving Gumley Road, 2.7 kilometres north of Rokewood-Shelford Road with road shoulder widening through curves, installation of safety barriers and improved signage and delineation.
$944,000 will go towards installing splitter islands, rumble strips, raised safety platforms and improved signage and street lighting at Avenue and Henderson Roads in Burrumbeet.
Over $265,000 will also help implement right hand turn signal and lane markings at Doveton and Eyre Streets in Ballarat Central.
Ms. King says the recent federal budget significantly increased both the Black Spot Funding Program and Roads to Recovery because they’re committed to supporting governments to make local roads safer.
In a statement, Mayor of Ballarat, Des Hudson, says the council is delighted to receive the funding which will allow essential safety improvements to be made at high-risk locations.
