Ballarat Community Health has hit out at likely funding cuts to health promotion and intervention services.
In a surprise call by the Department of Health last week all 24 Victorian Community Health Services were told the cash would be pulled from next months state budget.
Ballarat Community Health Chief Executive Officer Sean Duffy says the work they do keeps people out of hospital, thus saving the state money.
“I think there’s a universal view from CEO’s of health services and health services executives across Victoria that it makes sense to invest into the community and into community health schemes so that we are preventing people going to hospital, we’re preventing emergency department presentations,” Mr. Duffy said.
Victoria’s Community Health Services recently launched the ‘Community Health First’ campaign in a bid to secure more funding.
