Locals urged to get vaccinated ahead of winter as flu cases surge in Ballarat

Australia’s facing a triple-threat of sickness as the winter months approach, and we’re being urged to get vaccinated early.

The combined onslaught of COVID-19, influenza and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) has torn through the Northern Hemisphere winter, with the same scenario predicted to play out in Australia.

Health experts say major outbreaks will put even more pressure on our already strained health system.

Ballart’s had twenty-two flu cases this year compared to none at the same time last year.

Information at the Australian Health Department website indicates the flu vaccine will be available as of April to tackle the typical flu season that runs from June to September.

As of February, every person over the age of 18 became eligible for their next COVID-19 booster vaccine provided they haven’t had a COVID vaccination or infection in the past six months.
