She has thanked the Ballarat electorate for the continued chance to serve them in federal parliament.

“The opportunity, not just to serve the people of Ballarat but also to be part of a government that’s able to deliver on all the things we promised here is pretty special.”

Ms. King has wished Ms. Doran the best for the future.

“It’s always a very difficult decision, particularly coming in at such short notice with the Liberals having lost their previous candidate, and I do want to wish her all the best in her future and whatever that might bring,” she said.

On first preferences, Ms. King received 39,054 votes, whilst Ms. Doran received 26,359.
