Police car ramming on the rise, says superintendent

Ballarat police have revealed the ramming of patrol cars in the city is happening more often.

Earlier this month a vehicle was found burnt out in Canadian, with investigators later linking it to the ramming of a police car in Mitchell Park a short time earlier.

Superintendent Frank Sells says the dangerous crime is unfortunately on the rise.

“The most recent data that I have [shows] we’ve actually had four of them in the last five weeks, which does to me seem high,” he said.

“There’s considerable penalties for people who decide they’re going to ram a police vehicle or other emergency vehicle.”
