Demand for homes is surging locally, according to new data out this week from PropTrack.

By far and away the most popular suburb is Sebastopol, which saw the average number of key enquires per listing increase by 163 percent in the year to July.

That figure was high enough to top the list of Victorian suburbs that garnered the most interest from buyers, and make the Top Ten list nationally.

Other parts of Ballarat to see a rise in interest over the 12-month period were Wendouree (up by 131 percent), Delacombe (125 percent) and Ballarat North (101 percent).

The same report also notes an uptick in enquiries for units locally, with Sebastopol (98 percent) and Ballarat Central (86 percent) both making the Top Ten in Victoria.

In terms of affordability, Sebastopol again comes out on top, with its median house price now sitting at $530 thousand, and the average unit costing $379k.
