The Chief Executive Officer of Uniting in Victoria and Tasmania has praised the Ballarat community for leading the fight against gendered violence.
Uniting have been piloting the Leaving Violence Program for the last two years which will now become permanent after an announcement by the Prime Minister this week of a near billion-dollar investment.
“Thank you to the Ballarat community for standing up.”
“I think we have to acknowledge that a lot of the leadership in this most recent spotlight that has been shone on the issue of family violence has come from some really strong people in the Ballarat and surrounding communities,” CEO Bronwyn Pike said.
At least 28 women have been killed in acts of gendered violence so far this year, including three in Ballarat.
