Ballarat’s plagued Creswick Road car park is set to shut to make way for a massive expansion of Officeworks.

The City of Ballarat spent $850,000 on the site turning it from a petrol station into an asphalt parking lot but, was only leasing it.

The car park, which controversially went $670,000 over budget was meant to be a replacement for the 275 spots lost when nearby Gov Hub was built.

“With the landowner soon taking possession of the site, it is important for the community to be aware that the car park will no longer be available for parking from the 13th May,” said Mayor Cr Des Hudson.

“In the meantime, the City of Ballarat will continue to work with Regional Development Victoria to deliver additional car parking in Ballarat’s CBD.”

The owners will take back possession from May 15.
