Powercor is currently working to restore power to more than 14,000 homes and business’ across Central and Western Victoria.
The hardest hit areas include Ballarat, Shepparton, Geelong and Bendigo regions with ground lightning strikes causing damage to poles, powerlines and other important electrical infrastructure.
Since this morning, power has been restored to over 50,000 homes and businesses.

The community is being asked to stay away from fallen powerlines and to report it immediately.
Meantime, the Ballarat SES has reported minimal calls for help.
“We had just a couple of people wanting advice and a tree threatening to fall,” said Ballarat SES Incident Controller Gordon Hicks.
