Commercial passenger flights at Ballarat airport? Nope, we’re too close says RDA chairman

The Grampians Chair of Regional Development Australia has poured cold water over the idea of one day having commercial passenger flights at Ballarat airport.

Council is currently creating an airport masterplan with passenger flights definitely on their agenda.

But Stuart Benjamin says the numbers don’t add up given how close we are to major airports.

“There are very few places in Australia that are as close as we are to a major airport.”

“We’ve got two in Avalon and Tullamarine, where you can justify having passenger services to capital cities,” Mr. Benjamin said.

He also questioned the affordability of the flights given prices are often far higher at regional airports.
