Brown Hill’s Splash Park gets the nod from councillors, but not unanimously

The future of Brown Hill’s outdoor pool was decided last night and if you like swimming laps it’s not good news.

Councillors voted in favour of decommissioning the pool 6 votes to 3 with a Splash Park set to replace it.

Council says it’ll cost more than $230,000 to get rid of it, however if they had of chosen to refurbish the pool the price tag was estimated at $1.3 million.

In other City of Ballarat news, the re-development of the Bridge Mall has moved a step closer with a contractor awarded the job at this week’s council meeting.

Civil construction company 2Construct has got the $12.6 million (ex-gst) gig which includes work to redevelop Grenville Street, the Mall and Coliseum Walk.

Council announced this week that the complete Bakery Hill project will now cost $3.6 million more than the $15 million budgeted and will take 12 to 18 months to construct.

Works are expected to commence mid-year.
