Police in the Northern Territory believe women in Ballarat may have received “threatening” phone calls from an Alice Springs man.

The revelation was made in a statement recently shared via the Eyewatch Ballarat Facebook page.

“It is alleged that starting on 19 June this year, the 27-year-old made over 12,000 calls to numbers within Australia, allegedly targeting women and making sexual threats,” the post reads.

“The matter was reported to the NTPF [Northern Territory Police Force] on 29 July after the number was identified as being located in Alice Springs, with Southern Investigations taking carriage of the matter.”

The man was arrested and remanded in custody on Wednesday, August 12th, with officers seizing his mobile phone.

Police have since charged him with five counts of using a carriage service to harass, menace or cause offence.

Anyone who thinks they may have been a victim of the man’s alleged offending is encouraged to contact the Northern Territory Police Force directly.
