Tomorrow the Ballarat Wildlife Park will hold its first ever Tassie Devil Day.

An initiative of the park, the day aims to raise much needed funds to support vaccine research to treat the deadly devil facial tumor.

Darren Collinson from the park says the devil is on the endangered list because of the disease, with around 90% of their population wiped out.

“It’s a very rare disease that they actually transmit by their saliva.”

“It’s passed from animal to animal and unfortunately it turns into this very horrific and very graphic facial tumor of which they just don’t survive,” Mr. Collinson said.

Tomorrow’s activities include a raffle, auction, keeper talks as well as the usual fun stuff for the kids.
