Ballarat drenched for the second day in a row

A severe weather warning remains in place for Ballarat with the bureau saying rain should become less likely from this evening.

So far today the Ballarat airport rain gauge has recorded close to 40mm of rain, that’s on top of the 29mm yesterday.

Reports of flooding around the region have continued throughout the day with numerous roads closed including Gillies Street near the Ballarat Specialist School.
 
The Avoca River is now on a moderate flood watch.

David Tucek from the Ballarat SES Incident Control Centre says drivers should check road alerts before they leave home, or choose not to travel at all.
 
“We really are urging people to consider their route and note that there will be a number of diversions that will pop up.”
 
“Check in to Vic Roads, listen to local radio, listen to the SES for advice, as well as Vic Emergency for local advice, because that will be updated according to the need,” he said.
