Ballarat detectives have seized over 80,000 tobacco plants from a Landsborough property, as part of a major investigation into regional Victorian tobacco production.

The Ballarat Divisional Response Unit searched the property last Wednesday, finding an illegal tobacco plantation and thousands of tobacco bales, plants and manufacturing equipment.

A 47-year-old local man was arrested and is expected to be charged on summons.
