The answer to the question “What’s there to do in Ballarat?” has arrived in the form of a new website.

Launched by City of Ballarat the ‘Ballarat In The Know’ website keeps tabs on local events, while giving tips on where to eat and drink, and inspiration for activities in the region.

The Turret cafe’s LeRoy Hand says there’s a lot of pride when out of towners are brought to his cafe.

“We are really excited with the current initiative. We know that it’s going to bring a lot of visitors to The Turret and we love nothing more than when our locals bring their friends and families to visit us.”

City of Ballarat Mayor Cr. Des Hudson says the website gives locals the opportunity to act as ambassadors for Ballarat.

“About 50% of our visitor attraction is for people that come to Ballarat to visit friends and family, so giving our residents the opportunity to know what’s going on in and around Ballarat – whether they’re events, whether they’re different things they can do – our locals are that big drawcard.”

The initiative comes following research conducted by the City of Ballarat into the local visitor economy, with responses indicating locals wanted a calendar of events they could refer to when needing ideas for what to do around town.
