If you think your relationship has been feeling a bit of strain lately, you are definitely not alone. Between rising bills and the endless juggle of daily life, keeping romance alive can sometimes feel like a full-time job. But have you ever wondered if your postcode has anything to do with your love life?
Fresh research by Compare the Market has just dropped looking at how love is tracking across the country. A new study by Compare the Market has put every state and territory under the microscope to find out where Australia’s happiest couples actually live.
The results might surprise you, especially if you assumed the warmest weather equals the happiest relationships.
How the States Rank for Love
The study used a special “Happiest Couples Index” to score locations based on a mix of real-world factors. Researchers looked at marriage rates, divorce rates, how often people search for relationship advice online, general wellbeing scores, healthcare access, and the ever-pressing weight of housing stress.
When all the numbers were crunched, Tasmania took out the crown as the number one state for couples, scoring an impressive 79.00 out of 100. Tassie performed particularly well when it came to overall wellbeing and stable relationship foundations.
Coming in second place was Victoria with a score of 68.67, followed closely by New South Wales in third with 65.47. Both southeastern states scored big points for strong marriage rates and general community wellbeing.
South Australia grabbed fourth spot, while Queensland landed right in the middle of the pack at fifth place with a score of 55.28. Rounding out the rest of the national list were Western Australia, the Australian Capital Territory, and the Northern Territory.
What Is Pressuring Modern Relationships?
It turns out that romance does not exist in a vacuum. The study pointed out that everyday pressures play a massive role in how couples tick. Things like housing affordability and the cost of living can put an enormous amount of friction on domestic life. When you are stressing about a mortgage or rent, date night tends to get pushed down the priority list.
Access to good healthcare and support services also emerged as a big deal for long-term partnership stability. Experts noted that having peace of mind when it comes to health and counseling options can help couples navigate rough patches with a bit more confidence.
At the end of the day, a spreadsheet cannot tell you how things are going on your couch. Whether you live in a top-ranking state or down near the bottom, a happy relationship usually just comes down to good communication, patience, and remembering who’s turn it is to wash the dishes.
