A stalwart of the Ballarat political scene has passed away.
John Mildren OAM, who was the Federal Member for Ballarat for a decade from 1980 during the Hawke government years, died last night aged 91.
Only last year he was able to speak at an event in Ballarat to reflect on his life with his mind described as ‘very sharp’.

Current day Federal Member Catherine King saying it’s the end of an era in Ballarat with Medicare one of his greatest legacies.
“Personally, John was a mentor to me over many years and his example of how to represent a regional community like Ballarat is one that I will forever cherish,” Ms. King said.
“My thoughts are with his children, grandchildren and all who loved him.”
