One of the drivers of a Ballarat memorial for sexual abuse victims says he’s very excited over proposed funding for the project.
Yesterday, the Federal Labor Government announced if they win the next election, $500,000 would go towards the site at Victoria Park, acknowledging Australians affected by sexual assault and abuse.
The City of Ballarat are also inviting local survivors to develop the words appearing on the memorial via a series of new workshops.
Member of the memorial’s community reference group, Blake Curran, says they’re excited to create more art for the space.
“We’d love to hear from anyone really. It doesn’t have to be just victim-survivors, it can be their friends, their family, their whole support network if they’d like to take part,” he said.
“We’d love to hear all of the different voices and have them be part of this project.”
