Thousands of junior athletes will descend on Ballarat next year for a major sporting carnival.

The city will host the School Sport Australia Games in October 2025, with around 1,300 young sports stars from across the country and 3,000 visitors calling Ballarat home during the week-long event.

The School Sport Australia Games is a new concept, kicking off with its inaugural event in the Gold Coast later this year.

Seven sports, including cricket, netball, golf and tennis, will utilize several of Ballarat’s facilities to host the competitions.

It’s expected the event will inject almost $2 million into the local economy.

In a statement, School Sport Australia Executive Officer, Phil Reeves, said the organisation is thrilled to bring the games to Ballarat, a city that’s known for its sporting and tourist appeal.
