The Chief Executive of the Committee for Ballarat has backed this weeks decision by councillors to support a massive Bakery Hill development.

At Wednesday night’s planning meeting councillors gave the green light to an 8-storey apartment building with no car parks, as well as a similar sized office block with around 30 spaces.

Michael Poulton says in-fill housing is desperately needed in central Ballarat and not everyone wants or needs a car.

“The really significant part of that decision was to say, this is an important development for our inner city and certainly the people that want to live in the inner city.”

“Let’s not let car parking be the thing that derails the project, let’s work with the various stakeholders to ensure there is provision for some car parking, but don’t hold up the project,” Mr. Poulton said.

The project is now set to go ahead unless objectors appeal to VCAT.
