Police have confirmed that there has been a spike in petrol drive-off’s in Ballarat as the cost of living bites.
The price of a litre of unleaded is still around the $1.80 mark, forcing some to turn to crime just to fill their car.
Superintendent Frank Sells of Ballarat Police says it’s up to the industry to decide if a pre-payment scheme is required to prevent the drive-offs.

“But really it’s actually a matter for the fuel industry to make a determination around, but it might be worth trialing,” Superintendent Sells said.
