Lake Learmonth re-opened today as summer calls

After almost a month closed to the public for safety reasons, Lake Learmonth today re-opened after a marine safety audit.

The City of Ballarat saying the popular body of water is safe after above average rainfall and is now full.

Council Chief Executive Officer Evan King says they’re currently negotiating with Goulburn Murray Water to keep the lake fuller for longer by opening Morton’s Cutting for an extended period of time.
 
“We’re engaging with Goulburn Murray Water to see whether there would be some appetite to keep Morton’s Cutting open longer, to try and ensure flows into Lake Learmonth can keep it as full as possible for as long as possible,” Mr King said.

The cutting is due to close this Wednesday.
