The Ballarat International Foto Biennale has opened its ‘open program’ inviting artists from around the world, and close to home, to exhibit at this year’s festival.

It’ll be the 11th time the event has taken over Ballarat’s CBD when it kicks off in August.

Foto CEO Vanessa Gerrans says the festival, along with the impending opening of the National Centre for Photography in October, is turning Ballarat into the creative capital of regional Australia.

“We’ve really developed an understanding; we’ve become known as Australia’s capital for photography, the national centre will add to that.”

“And like the festival, which is actually a huge tourism drawcard for Ballarat, the national centre will provide an ongoing means to celebrate photography and welcome new visitors,” Ms. Gerrans said.

The 2025 festival will run from August 23rd to October 19th with Open Program artist registration open now Open Program Artist Registration | Ballarat International Foto Biennale.
