A Matt Guy Liberal Government would cut Ballarat commuters’ V/Line fares in half – according to a new campaign pledge.
The promise – ahead of the November 26 state election – would see a daily Ballarat to Melbourne traveller save $2, 074 on travel per year.
Currently a round trip from Melbourne to Ballarat will set you back 45 dollars.
The move comes a day after the Andrews Government accused Matthew Guy of excluding regional VLine passengers when he announced over the weekend a plan to cap metro public transport costs at $2-a-day.
Labor claimed this to be the second time Matthew Guy’s Liberals and Nationals have broken their promises for regional Victorians.
“Just a few months ago, the Liberal and National leaders were crowing about the $8 billion they would spend on regional hospitals. But it’s been revealed they will break that promise, slashing $5-6 billion from regional hospitals” said Minister for Transport Infrastructure Jacinta Allan.
Ms. Allan adds you can’t trust the Liberal Government when it comes to public transport.
“Country train passengers deserve better..than what’s been offered from Matthew Guy and the Liberals. Previously they’ve cut train lines, closed train stations, and cut funding to V/Line.”
In relation to today’s pledge announcement from the Coalition of a 50% reduction in VLine fares if the party gets into power, Shadow Treasurer David Davis says it’s part of their long term economic plan.
“It’s going to help Victorians manage the cost of living pressures…and reward hard working families across regional Victoria.”
