A somber but important event on Ballarat’s calendar returns this Saturday, the Out of the Shadows Walk on the shores of Lake Wendouree.

The latest data shows suicide is currently the third leading cause of death among 15 to 29-year-olds world-wide.

Chair of the Ballarat & District Suicide Awareness Network Des Hudson says this year the walk will incorporate a new ‘blue tree’ metal sculpture.

“In the last 12 months we have now initiated the blue tree, which is over on the edge of the lake, it will become a reflection point of its own.”

“Annie De Jong the CEO of the Ballarat Cemetries Trust will present a short reading there, and we’ll also invite people if they want to bring a floral tribute, they can lay it at the base of the blue tree,” Mr. Hudson said.

The walk will commence at 5.30am from the rotunda near Pipers.
