Police have launched an investigation following a fatal truck crash west of Ballarat.
It’s understood the truck was travelling eastbound along the Western Highway when it left the road and collided with a tree on the outskirts of Ararat about 4.20am today (Thursday, August 20th).
A fire then started and engulfed the vehicle, resulting in the driver – whose identity is yet to be confirmed – dying at the scene.
Detours were put in place after the collision, with drivers being redirected onto the Pyrenees and Sunraysia Highways via Avoca.
Those taking the route today are being told it will add 30 minutes to their journey.
At this stage, the Western Highway is not expected to reopen until the police investigation of the crash site is complete.
Anyone who witnessed, or has dash-cam footage of the collision should contact Crime Stoppers.
