Bakery Hill twin tower development could start as early as next year

The first sod on a controversial Bakery Hill twin tower development could be turned as early as next year.

Local developer Hygge Property has approval for an apartment building and an eight-storey office block on the former Robert Sim Building Supplies site.

Director of Hygge Property, Joseph van Dyk, says a start date will be influenced by property market conditions.

“We’ve got confidence that there is demand for this type of living in Ballarat,” he said.

“We’re seeing some big shifts in our demographics that support that belief and we’re hopeful for next year.”

The Humffray Street South towers were given the green light by the state planning panel in December last year, despite opposition from nearby residents over its height and traffic congestion.
