The City of Ballarat’s CEO, Evan King, says government promises made both before and during the election campaign have led to some exciting projects getting the green light.

As late as last Friday, Labor committed $3 million for a new Ballarat Veterans Assistance Centre, taking campaign promises north of $8 million.

Mr. King says commitments before the campaign were also pleasing.

“Pre-election, we had a commitment of $8.4 million for the Eastwood Community Centre, $2.5 million for a heat pump at the aquatic centre, $1.1 million for terminal upgrades at the airport and $100 million for the Brewery Tap intersection,” he said.

Meanwhile, the portfolios freshly elected Ballarat MP Catherine King will hang onto remains up in the air.

She had been Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government in the last Albanese government.

Ms. King says discussions about her role start now.

“I’ll certainly put my hand up for the ministry,” she said.

“There’s a few processes internally where our caucus decides who they’d like to put forward for the ministry, and then that’ll be up to the Prime Minister to allocate portfolios.”
