Robert Redford, the legendary actor and director, has passed away at 89. The Academy Award winner died peacefully at his Sundance, Utah, home, surrounded by family.
Redford’s illustrious career earned him an Oscar for directing Ordinary People, an honorary Academy Award, and numerous other accolades, including BAFTAs, Golden Globes, and the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

Born in Santa Monica, California, Redford began his career in the 1960s with TV roles and Broadway success. His breakout film role in 1969’s Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid launched him into stardom. He went on to star in iconic films like The Sting, The Way We Were, and All the President’s Men.
In 1980, Redford began directing with Ordinary People, which won Best Picture and Best Director. He directed nine films, including A River Runs Through It and Quiz Show, and executive produced TV’s Dark Winds.
Redford continued acting, with memorable performances in Out of Africa, The Natural, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and The Old Man & the Gun.
Beyond his film work, Redford founded the Sundance Film Festival, a major platform for independent cinema. He was also a passionate advocate for environmentalism, Native American rights, LGBTQ+ rights, and the arts.
