The Liberals and Nationals are calling for urgent repairs to dangerous potholes across Victoria following the death of a 71-year-old Ballarat man on the Western Highway.
Police were called to the stretch of highway near Trawalla Road just before 12.50pm on Sunday following reports a motorcyclist had struck a pothole and lost control.
The man died at the scene, with police investigating the exact circumstances surrounding the crash.
The section of the Western Highway had previously been identified as needing repairs and was reportedly marked as having works completed.
Shadow Minister for Roads and Road Safety Danny O’Brien offered his condolences to the man’s family and called for urgent action on road maintenance.
“These potholes need to be fixed and fixed properly as a matter of urgency,” Mr O’Brien said.
The Opposition says it will continue pushing the State Government to bring forward maintenance works on regional Victoria’s most dangerous roads.
The Liberals and Nationals have pledged to spend $5 billion over four years on road maintenance and repair one million potholes if elected.
