While “Dollarbucks” are a recurring joke in the series, these coins are the real deal. Struck by the Royal Australian Mint, the collection features seven unique $2 coin designs. Each one showcases beloved characters including Bluey, her sister Bingo, and their parents, Bandit and Chilli.

The illustrations were developed in collaboration with Ludo Studio, the Brisbane-based powerhouse where the show is created. For the eagle-eyed fans, the designs reference specific, iconic moments from episodes like Camping and Granny Mobile.

The Thrill of the Hunt

There are a few different ways to collect these pieces of Australian history:

  • Individual Coins: You can purchase uncirculated coins featuring a special Bluey “Star” privy mark for $20 each.
  • The Full Set: A five-coin tube and folder set is available for $34.
  • The “Sleepytime” Surprise: In a move that will surely excite collectors, there is a one-in-ten chance that the five-coin tube will contain a special coloured coin themed after the fan-favourite episode Sleepytime.

Perhaps most exciting for those who still use cash is the “in the wild” element. Australia Post Executive General Manager Retail, Josh Bannister, confirmed that coloured $2 Bluey and Bingo coins will be circulating in till change at participating Post Offices. It gives a whole new meaning to “checking your change.”

A Slice of Aussie Culture

Since its debut, Bluey has been praised for its authentic portrayal of modern family life and its distinctly Australian flavour. Assistant Minister for the Treasury, the Hon Andrew Leigh, noted that the collection captures that “everyday joy” the show is known for.

Sharon Wilson of BBC Studios ANZ described the collection as a “playful nod to Aussie culture.” It is a sentiment echoed by fans globally; while the show is 100% created and produced in Brisbane, its themes of play and imagination have seen it broadcast to audiences across the US and the rest of the world via Disney+ and the Disney Channel.
