Changes introduced by the Australian Taxation Office affecting the way local government can receive tax deductible donations could benefit a suitable local charity or charities.

Ballarat council must now wind up the Her Majesty’s Theatre Trust Fund which holds a sizeable $140,000.

City of Ballarat CEO Evan King says the entity that ends up receiving the cash will need to be arts focused.

“We’re doing an expression of interest at the moment to find an entity that would be willing to take on those funds and ensure that they’re used for the purpose in which they were received.”

“Our thought is that they could use the money to create a round of funding to fund the arts in Ballarat,” Mr. King said.

Applicants should outline the intended use of the funds, the benefits their proposal will deliver, and how their approach supports Her Majesty’s Theatre and the creative community.

The EOI is open until March 4th.
