After close to 37 years a former Ballarat Mayor and current councillor is leaving his day job.
Des Hudson has handed back his badge as a police officer this afternoon due to his poor hearing hampering operational requirements of the role.
Des says he’s not old enough to retire just yet and is currently exploring new employment opportunities to supplement his role with council.
“To all the external organisations, schools, community groups and agencies I worked alongside—thank you, it was a genuine pleasure,” Cr Hudson said via social media.
“As of 5:00 PM today, for the first time since Year 9, I no longer have a place of employment.”
Cr Hudson is currently the longest serving councillor for the City of Ballarat post council amalgamations and is serving his seventh term.
