Remember the good old days of Friday nights, jumping in the car and heading down to the video store to find a movie to rent, fighting over who wanted what, and how long you could rent it for? As you know times have changed and sadly, the last of one video/DVD iconic rental business is closing its doors in Australia for good.
I'm talking about Blockbuster.
That's right, the very last Blockbuster video store in Australia is shutting up shop March 8.
This sole surivior of the Blockbuster franchise in Oz (but not for much longer) is located in Morley (a suburb in Perth) and was owned by Lyn and John Borszeky, who cited the rising popularity of streaming services was behind their decision to close.
Once they close their doors, there will be only one Blockbuster store in world, but you will have to travel over the Bend in Oregon USA to borrow a DVD and be greeted with a smile by a human being and not some vending machine that you find around the way.
A lot of customers were sad to hear the news as many were seniors who found today's technology way too complicated and others had poor internet connections.
