Tourist Handles One Of Our Most Dangerous Animals

This is one lucky tourist!

A tourist visiting Australia thought he was holding a cute octopus but she was wrong and very lucky.

A video captioned "what a pretty octopus" written in Mandarin, was uploaded to Reddit recently and you can see a hand (uncovered) holding a blue-ringed octopus.

The venom that the Blue-Ringed Octopus releases is the only type that will kill a human being if they get bitten, the neurotoxin from its glands will cause paralysis, causing its prey to stop breathing and die "within an hour".

The blue ringed octopus is shy and does not pose a threat if left alone, it is also nocturnal, mostly hiding during the day and looking for food at night.

Children are at risk as they are attracted to the bright colours of the octopus, as are tourists it seems!

No blue-ringed octopus antivenom is available.
