Looks like it’s going to get a lot easier!
On trial at Melbourne Airport is new security technology which should make things a whole lot easier for passengers, getting those queues to mover much more quickly.
With the new system, liquids and gels, plus laptops and other electronic items won’t need to be scanned individually.
The new technology takes a CT scan of carry-on luggage to obtain a 3D image of the contents inside – at the moment airport security screening uses a 2D image.
The trial of the new system has been going at Melbourne Airport’s T4 domestic terminal since last month and will continue for as long as needed; but the anticipation is, the system will be used in other major airports and regional terminals in Australia in a few years.
