Wayne Schwass was a leader on the field when he played for North Melbourne and the Swans, winning their best and fairest awards, a premiership medal and an All Australian accolade.
During this time, behind the scenes he struggled with mental health issues which almost destroyed him. Despite this Wayne lead the way to become one of the first well known faces to speak up and stand up about his mental health publicly. He did this again yesterday at the Victorian Mental Health Royal Commission when he was the first to tell his important story at the Melbourne Town Hall.
We spoke with Wayne on Ballarat Today about his important work in the field with his organisation "Puka Up", the Royal Commission and what he expects the outcome will be.
