A new book looking at European settlement and the interaction with the Wadawurrung people aims to paint a more nuanced picture of the Ballarat region in the 1840s and beyond.

Associate Professor Fred Cahir says 'My Country All Gone' is about relationships between different peoples rather than a book about culture.

He says early white pioneers relied on indigenous people more than we realise.
