Robert Walls is best known for firing up Fitzroy and coaching Carlton to the 1987 premiership, but on Saturday night the new Hepburn resident faced a wall of flames that threatened to engulf his home.
The blaze began as one of 100,000 lightning strikes across Victoria on Wednesday, which smouldered until it flared up in hot northerly winds at the weekend.
We caught up with Wallsy who is incredibly grateful for caring neighbours, emergency personnel and a roof over his head.
And his sense of humour is still intact...

Wallsy is back at the Blues in 2019, volunteering his services to mentor the coaching panel.
