It was a vivid dream about a dashing bushranger and a stagecoach that inspired Kangaroo Island author Darry Fraser to pen 'The Widow of Ballarat'.
The new book is described as 'fast paced historical adventure' and while it is not specifically about the Eureka Stockade, it revolves around the events of that day.
It centres on Nell, a smart and strong pioneer woman married to an abusive tyrant who is mysteriously shot dead. Nell must produce a baby boy in order to inherit her husband's mining fortune, but she is not exactly pregnant - and that's when she requires the help of the good-looking bushranger.
Darry is speaking from 6.30 tonight (Wed 5 Dec) at the Old Colonists Club, 20 Lydiard St Nth, just above Collins Booksellers.
