Simone O'Brien is a woman made of titanium - the strongest metal on earth.
In 2012, a man who claimed he loved her, bashed her in the head and upper body more than 50 times with a baseball bat.
It is a miracle she survived - and she now lives with titanium plates in her skull.
Now based in the Wimmera, she travels the country to educate people about domestic violence and tell MPs (such as Senator Derryn Hinch, pictured with Simone) about how extremely violent people are still passing police checks.
Simone is encouraging survivors to report abuse through official channels, so perpetrators can be stopped in their tracks.
Ballarat Today caught up with Simone to hear her story.
