Barcelona Opera House Reopens With A Very Special Performance

Now for something different (still Covid-19 related) but different! They say that music is good for plants, and for over 2 thousand plants, it seems they were in for a real treat over in Spain.

Barcelona's Gran Teatre del Liceu opera house is used to being sold out, until Covid-19 came along, and after a period of time where dust gathered on the seats and stage, it has opened its doors to something glorious!

Spain has lifted its lock down  and to celebrate, musicians played to an unusual audience on Monday.

Thousands of plants (a total of 2,292 plants to be exact) were placed on the seats around the theatre, and they all sat there silently as a quartet played.

There was even clapping at the end, and I think a standing ovation (hard to tell with plants sorry).
Conceptual artist Eugenio Ampudia was behind the event which included a performance from the UceLi Quartet string quartet.
The opera house said in the statement that it, quote: "welcomes and leads a highly symbolic act that defends the value of art, music and nature as a letter of introduction to our return to activity."
So where did the plants come from you ask?
They were brought in from nearby nurseries and each one will be donated to a healthcare worker from the Hospital Clinic of Barcelona.
