The landline telephone has been connecting people across the world for over 100 years – but its era is coming to an end.

20 years ago you could walk into any home in the country and find a landline phone, but now households that have a landline phone are a minority.

In 2001, a landline phone could be found in over 96 percent of Aussie homes, but now, that figure has dropped to under 50 percent.

The rise of the internet, with tech giants such as Google and Facebook and the increase in mobiles, then smartphones in seen as the reason for the decline in landline use.
