A man whose body was found last week by firefighters in bushland on the NSW mid north coast is still to be formally identified.
But homicide detectives on Monday said they believe he was in his early 40s and he died at another location before his body was dumped in the Yarratt State Forest, north of Taree, late on Wednesday or in the early hours of Thursday.
The Rural Fire Service crew discovered the body about 6am on Thursday on Yarratt Road after they put out a small blaze.
"While he may have been brought to the area under darkness, strike force detectives are urging motorists with dash-cam and travelling in or through that area to provide copies of footage to local police," police said in a statement.
Investigators also want to speak to anyone with information that may assist them, including anyone knowing the man's identity.
A post-mortem is yet to determine how he died.
